Shorter combat tours coming for troops

WASHINGTON (AP) - April 5, 2008

A senior Bush administration official tells The Associated Press that the administration plans to announce next week that combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan will be reduced from 15 months to 12 months beginning this summer.

It's not clear which units will be the first to be affected.

The decision comes as General David Petraeus prepares to deliver a progress report to Congress next week on the security situation in Iraq. He's also expected to make recommendations for future troop levels.
