Smyrna Police have charged a substitute teacher with putting a boy in a headlock at Smyrna Middle School.

Police spokesman Lt. Norman Wood says the parents of the 12-year-old boy wanted to press charges.

58-year-old Wayne Saulsbury of Dover is charged with one count of offensive touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

School officials say he is suspended until the criminal investigation and court proceedings are complete.

On March 20, a school resource officer says he received reports of a disorderly student. When he went to the classroom, police said they learned the boy was barred from going to the nurse and Saulsbury allegedly grabbed him around the neck.
