Camden hotel in the works

CAMDEN, N.J. - April 10, 2008 The proposed site is just north of the new Ferry Terminal building and south of the Ben Franklin Bridge.

The Philadelphia-based PRA Development and Management Corporation is seeking approval to build a 140-room Hilton Garden Inn.

Camden has no hotels and the last one built in the 1930's, The Plaza, has been a shuttered hulk since 1985.

The 28-million dollar Hilton Garden Inn could be perfect for Camden's waterfront, says Shawn Sarin. He manages the nearby Victor's Pub in the Victor apartment building.

Before anything happens, the developer will have to put together financing in tough economic times.

PRA Development will go before the city planning board in May, and then a tax agreement must be worked out with the city. If all goes well, Camden could have a hotel by the summer of 2010.
