Juan Luis Guerra leads Latin Billboard nominees

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) - April 10, 2008 The Dominican singer has been on a winning streak in the last year, claiming a Grammy and five Latin Grammys, among other awards.

His nominations for the 2008 Latin Billboard awards include three entries in the category tropical airplay song of the year by a duo or group - "La Llave de Mi Corazon," "Que Me des Tu Carino," and "La Travesia."

Together with his group 4.40, Guerra could win titles for artist of the year and tropical album of the year by a duo or group for "La Llave de Mi Corazon."

Colombia's Fanny Lu is also a favorite with six nominations, among them best female tropical album and best tropical album by a new artist for "Lagrimas calidas," and female tropical airplay song and new artist tropical song for "Y Si Te digo" and "No Te Pido Flores."

The Latin Billboard awards ceremony, held this year at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, honors performers with the best sales and airplay as determined by Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.

Other top nominees included Dominican group Aventura and Mexican singers Marco Antonio Solis and Vicente Fernanez, who each had five nominations. There were four nominations each for New York-born Jennifer Lopez, Colombian rocker Juanes, Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, Puerto Rican reggaeton stars Wisin & Yandel, Puerto Rican pop singer Kany Garcia, and the Mexican artists Mana, Jenni Rivera, and Los Creadorez del Pasito Duranguense de Alfredo Ramirez.
