Juveniles busted for mailbox bombs

HORSHAM, Pa. - April 16, 2008

The Horsham Township Police and the United States Postal Inspection Service in Philadelphia charged the pair with setting an explosive inside a mailbox in the 900 block of Jennifer Road in Horsham.

Police in Bucks and Montgomery County have seen a rash of explosions in mailboxes. One blew up in the face of a bomb squad officer. Luckily, he was wearing protective gear.

One of the ingredients is a corrosive chemical that can burn the skin or cause serious eye damage. Police are worried that some kids are getting more sophisticated and creative with the bombs, packing them with shrapnel.

The teens face charges of Recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. They have been released into their parents' custody. No named are being released by authorities because of their age.
