It was not immediately clear what sparked the violence outside the MarketFair mall in West Windsor. Authorities say the 32-year-old man stabbed the 20-year woman inside their vehicle shortly after they arrived there around 4 p.m.
The car then rolled over a grassy median, and the woman was eventually able to get out of the car. However, the man then stabbed her again as she ran inside, seeking shelter in a bookstore.
Police say the man then slit his throat and fell out of his car while it was moving through the parking lot.
Both people were taken to Capital Health System's Fuld campus in Trenton, where the man was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman was in satisfactory condition, authorities said.
Their names were not released, pending notification of their relatives.
