Man proposing zoo in Bucks County

BANGOR, Pa. (AP) - April 28, 2008

Fortunato has a collection of 80 animals that are part of a traveling teaching zoo that he takes to schools, camps, fairs, birthday parties and other events. The animals are now kept at his Northampton Township property.

Now, the retired police officer says he wants to set up the first permanent zoo in Bucks County. He says that would allow him to display 150 to 200 animals - ranging from baby lemurs and monkeys to pythons and alligators - and still continue his traveling shows.

Warminster Township Supervisor Frank Feinberg says there are strict state and federal guidelines governing such facilities. Fortunato also says he would have to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the effort.
