Thirty-one-year-old Amy Proefrock-Simkanin apologized tearfully to the family of the victim and to her own two children and the rest of her family in court Monday.
Judge Paul Tressler says he sentenced her to the mandatory minimum because she is not malicious. But he says, "This is not one of those things that you can take back."
The accident happened about 12:30 a.m. on a Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. Police say Proefrock-Simkanin was over the legal blood-alcohol limit for driving and was going more than 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Officials say she failed to stop at a flashing red light in Hatfield Township and struck another vehicle, fatally injuring 50-year-old David Price.
