Married abroad, soldiers come home

PHILADELPHIA - May 10, 2008 Members of A Hero's Welcome, a group of volunteers dedicated to being there when troops come home from battle, greeted service members like Captain Jeff Varell of Delaware who saw his new son for the first time.

Sgt. Tyler Peltier got an excited hug from his mom, Sonia. She got to meet for the first time another Sgt. Peltier, Petrina Peltier... her new daughter in law. The two met in Germany and married in a war zone.

Tyler, a military policeman, says it was love at first sight at a training exercise. Incurable romantic that he is, he figured a way to get her attention - try to steal her weapon.

Ah... the ways of cupid.

From the airport the couple got a police and motorcycle escort to his home in Pemberton. They will spend a couple of days there, then five days with her family in Arizona. Then back to Afghanistan to finish their tours.

To borrow a phrase: "Definitely different from your average story."
