A dumb move with a smart bomb

OCALA, Fla. (AP) - May 15, 2008

They're trying to determine how a Navy jet fighter from Virginia dropped a 500-pound laser-guided bomb a mile off target.

The miss sparked a wildfire in the Ocala National Forest in Florida.

According to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, about 150 acres burned after an F/A-18 Super Hornet dropped the bomb that landed outside the target range

U.S. Forest Service fire management officer Mike Drayton tells the Ocala Star Banner no structures were damaged and no one was hurt in the blaze.
