Centennia remembers World Fair

It is one of the few structures left standing from the 1876 World Fair in Philadelphia (Memorial Hall is another).

To get the feeling of that legendary celebration of the nation's 100th birthday, you can attend "Centennia" this weekend. More than 100 vendors will re-create the spirit of the fair if not its size, all around the Ohio House.

Nations from around the world participated in the World Fair, and one in four Americans, 10 million of our then 40 million residents, actually visited in person.

Centennia will have over 100 vendors offering everything from snacks to antiques. Tickets are $6.00 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free.

Proceeds benefit the Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust, which looks after almost 400 structures in parks citywide.

Hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am to 5:00pm Sunday. There's also a gala Friday evening hosted by Mayor Nutter which costs $100.00 per person.

For information, call 215-877-4327 or go to the Centennia website.
