Part of old church collapses in Houston

It happened at the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church on Buckner and Ruthven. The church was slated for some type of restoration, according to fire officials.

Residents say that for the last couple of weeks they had seen a couple of falling bricks from the building.

At this point, we don't know of any injuries. Authorities are on the scene to determine if there was anyone inside the building at the time of the collapse.

"Clearly in the second floor there has been some kind of collapse because the floor is pushed down right there in the second floor where the wall was pushed out. Clearly in the interior, there is some kind of structural issue inside," said Chief Tommy Dowdy with the Houston Fire Department. "The rescue people are here. We don't believe there is anyone in there, but until we go in there and do a search, we are really not going to know."

Crews did a primary and secondary search of the building and no victims were located in the building.

At least four nearby homes were evacuated for safety precautions.
