New trial for Taj Mahal casino robbery
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - May 21, 2008 In a decision published Wednesday, a state appeals court ruled
that Tyrone Daniels deserves a new trial because testimony from a
key witness was inadmissible.
Daniels was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for
robbing the casino of more than $70,000 with the help of a casino
employee.
His alleged coconspirator worked as a cashier at the casino.
Margaret Robertson testified that she helped Daniels gain access to
the cashiers' office.
The court ruled that Robertson's testimony that she helped
Daniels because he threatened her was inadmissible because it was
not proven that the threats were directly related to her
participation in the robbery.
