3 alarm fire in Center City

A three-alarm fire burned Friday night in Center City. It broke out in an apartment building in the 1000 block of Spruce Street around 9:30 p.m. and went to a third alarm just before 10 p.m.

Three firefighters were taken to Jefferson and Pennsylvania Hospitals with minor injuries.

Officials tell Action News firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one unit.

The fire was brought under control at 10:49 p.m.

Two other adjacent buildings suffered smoke damage.

Residents say the building mostly houses medical students who work at Jefferson Hospital.

The Department of Emergency Management is working to help displaced residents.

According to the fire department, the blaze began on the fourth floor.

A few people who live in the building said they heard a fire alarm.

No civilians were injured.
