CDC: Tomato link in salmonella outbreak

ATLANTA, GA.; June 3, 2008

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tracking an outbreak of salmonella food poisoning in nine states. It's linked to fresh tomatoes.

So far, 40 people have gotten sick in Texas and New Mexico with the same strain of salmonella.

17 of those have been hospitalized.

Another 30 have gotten sick with the same strain in Arizona, Utah, Colorado,, Kansas, Idaho, Illinois, and Indiana.

But it's not certain yet if tomatoes are the culprit there.

No source has been identified yet.

And so far, there are no reported cases in our area.
