Academy of Music to raise curtain on new building
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - June 8, 2008 Mozart's installation is among several finishing touches to be
completed. The academy is preparing to take the wraps off its new
$25 million glass-and-stone building in downtown Lancaster. The
curtain will formally rise Wednesday evening with a gala concert
hosted by actress Claire Bloom.
The grand opening marks a major milestone for the academy, which
had no permanent home when it first opened to 50 students in 1991.
It now enrolls about 350 south-central Pennsylvania students,
ranging from preschoolers to adults. It will have the capacity to
grow to 600.
