How quickly can tornadoes be predicted?

Erica's Answer:

If the right weather "ingredients" are in place, though, we can tell our viewers that tornadoes are likely. In this situation, a Tornado Watch is issued. That means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.

A Tornado Warning is issued when a tornado is spotted, either by a trained spotter or by a meteorologist looking at Doppler radar. That means that a tornado is occurring, and if it's in your area you need to get to a sturdy, safe shelter!

We meteorologists are constantly trying to learn more about tornadoes through research. Tornadoes are probably the biggest weather mystery on Earth. Hopefully someday, we'll be able to accurately predict tornadoes before they form!
