Chester Co. bus fares 35 cents for 1 day

The agency that runs three bus routes in Chester County says it will reduce fares to 35 cents for one day. It's happening Thursday of next week to mark the National Dump the Pump Day. That's the third annual event by transit agencies nationwide to encourage people to get around without driving.

The Transportation Management Association of Chester County says it picked 35 cents because that was the base fare for public transit in Philadelphia during the 1973 oil crisis.

Base fares of Chester County TMA buses normally range from $1.25 to $2.50. There are normally surcharges for going beyond zone boundaries; those are to be waived in the one-day promotion.
