FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - June 11, 2008 Dr. Albert Barnes' will said his art collection had to remain
exactly where it was on his suburban estate. The foundation went to
court to break the will, arguing that the only way it could stay
afloat financially was to move the collection to downtown
Philadelphia. That would put it closer to other tourist attractions
and get around suburban rules restricting the number of visitors. A
judge ruled in 2004 that the collection could move.
Opponents of the move want new hearings on the decision, but the
judge said last month he wouldn't hold them. Montgomery County
commissioners may decide at Thursday's meeting to appeal that.
