Man killed after firing pellets at police

OAK ORCHARD, Del. (AP) - June 14, 2008 State police said Friday that evidence technicians found four distinct defects on the front of a tree the officer used for cover.

Fifty-eight year old Gary Bliss of Millsboro was killed after two officers responded to a report of an intoxicated and suicidal individual who had cut his wrists. State police say Bliss ignored commands to drop his weapon and began firing at the troopers while advancing on one of them. The officers fired eight rounds in self defense.

State police say the pellet gun resembled a semiautomatic handgun.
