Obama campaigns, McCain takes time off

(AP) - June 15, 2008

Yesterday the Democratic candidate for president stopped in Quincy, Illinois, along the rising Mississippi River, to help with sandbagging efforts.

Republican John McCain has no events on his public schedule today.

And he's pulled the plug on a fundraiser that had been scheduled for tomorrow in Texas. It was being hosted at the home of oilman Clayton Williams. His campaign for governor was derailed in 1990 over a joke about rape. The McCain campaign says it just heard about it, and decided to cancel the visit to Williams' home. The Texan has already bundled more than $300,000 in donations for the McCain campaign, which says it plans to keep it.

McCain used an Internet "town hall" event yesterday to woo backers of former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
