How much is a phone book worth?

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - June 16, 2008

Plenty -- if it's well over a century old.

One of the first American phone books goes up for auction tomorrow.

It was published in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1878.

Officials at Christie's auction house in New York expect it to go for between $30,000 and $40,000.

Back in the 1870's the newfangled telephone was so high-tech, users needed some tips.

The phone book advises callers to greet each other with "Hulloa!" and immediately report anyone using profanity.
