Fire department officials say the two-alarm blaze started at about 5 a.m. Sunday and ripped a hole in the roof. It also caused most of the second floor to collapse and did substantial damage to the exterior.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, which officials said appeared to have started inside the building. Nine residents displaced are being assisted by the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
The building had survived damage from three other fires since 1979.
The inn, once called Old Stoney, has also been used as a bar since it was built in 1800.
