Twelve-year-old Brennan Nale, of Hollidaysburg, has been interested in honeybees for several years. He and his father are dividing his hive to earn a Boy Scout merit badge.
But some residents of the Blair County borough say the bees are a nuisance. A recent complaint prompted the borough to order their removal, claiming they violate its property maintenance ordinance.
Brennan's father, Regis Nale, says he'll fight the case. He faces a potential $1,000 fine and court costs.
He says the ordinance covers disease-carrying insects, vermin and rodents - not honeybees.
Council says staff will look into the situation.
