Delaware State Police have released the names of the patient and the Sussex County paramedic killed in an ambulance accident near Angola.

Police say the crash killed 82-year-old Betty J. Hall and 31-year-old Stephanie Callaway, both of Lewes. The crash happened about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday on Route 24 near the Lewes-Rehoboth fire company substation.

According to police, the Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad ambulance was taking Hall from a nursing home to Beebe Medical Center when the driver swerved to avoid a deer in the road. The ambulance hit a tree and the side was ripped open by the impact.

The driver, 34-year-old Michael Wissman of Frankford, and another medic, 47-year-old Brice Hickman of Dagsboro suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to Beebe Medical Center.
