Michigan man claims Mega Millions jackpot

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - June 18, 2008

Fred Topous stepped forward in Lansing Tuesday to claim the prize from Friday's drawing in the multistate game.

He chose to take the prize as a $34 million lump sum payment, before taxes.

The Kent City man says he didn't learn he'd won the drawing until Monday afternoon, when he stopped in at the Party World store in Comstock Park on his way to work and asked a clerk to check his ticket.

Topous says he and his wife work multiple jobs to make ends meet and thought they'd have to work till they died. Now he says he wants to "enjoy life a little bit."
