Jersey City mayor sues shore town over arrest

BRADLEY BEACH, N.J. (AP) - June 19, 2008

Healy and wife Maureen claim their rights were violated when the officers subdued them after he tried to mediate a dispute between another man and his girlfriend.

Named in the suit are the borough of Bradley Beach as well as nine police officers.

The suit claims excessive force and false arrest and imprisonment.

Healy was convicted last year of resisting arrest and obstruction of justice stemming from the incident, but is appealing.

Bradley Beach Mayor Stephen G. Schueler and Police Chief Leonard Guida did not immediately return messages Thursday seeking comment.
