NEW YORK Saturday's accident happened in Brooklyn's Kensington neighborhood.

Witnesses said the car crashed into two children at play on the sidewalk, where they lay bleeding after being hit, and two young women.

A 2-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition, and a girl, also 2, in stable condition, police said. The women, 16 and 19, were in stable condition, according to police.

Police say a teenaged driver ran from the scene on East 19th Street, but he was later arrested.

The suspect, 16-year-old Akeem Grant, faces charges that include reckless endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Saturday's accident came a day after cars veered onto sidewalks at three separate locations in Manhattan, hitting 18 people. Three were hospitalized in serious condition; 11 others were treated for less serious injuries.

The driver in one of Friday's accidents also was taken into custody, after hitting 10 people in the Garment District. The 23-year old driver was arrested on charges of unlicensed driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
