McCain attends services at Phoenix church

PHOENIX (AP) - June 22, 2008 The Arizona senator's presence at North Phoenix Baptist Church was unannounced, and many of the hundreds of members appeared not to notice as he sat alone during the 90-minute service. He shook hands with and hugged a few people afterward, then left flanked by Secret Service agents.

McCain did not speak to reporters.

McCain was scheduled to leave his home state Monday for campaign appearances in California, including a town-hall meeting in Fresno and fundraisers there and in Riverside.

His wife, Cindy McCain, was out of town.
