Painting donated to Goodwill worth thousands

EASTON, Md. (AP) - June 26, 2008

But it's worth tens of thousands.

Someone dropped off a valuable work of art at a rural Maryland Goodwill store.

A sharp-eyed employee figured the French Impressionist work didn't belong with the usual Goodwill pots, pans and old dishes.

The Parisian street scene (by Edouard-Leon Cortes) recently sold for more than $40,000 at a Sotheby's auction.

If the former owner wants a cut, he or she is out of luck.

Goodwill officials point out all donations are final.
