Bill would ban 'combative fighting' in Del.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - June 29, 2008 The bill proposed by Republican state Representative Robert J. Valihura Jr. of Beau Tree would-ban so-called "combative fighting" and is being called the "Toughman Legislation."

The bill defines Toughman events as elimination tournaments between amateur participants without any boxing experience or training. Promoters and fighters who violate the law would face misdemeanor charges.

Delaware does not have a state boxing commission and boxing is sanctioned by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, which does not currently regulate such competitions.
