Big jackpots gone, but lottery tickets still selling

TRENTON, N.J. - June 30, 2008 Scratch off games offering the promise of instant wealth. How about a million dollars from the game, Million dollar explosion? Long odds? How about impossible odds? The million dollar prizes were given away months ago, yet the game is still on sale for three more weeks.

Lottery buyers like Maria say, that's not fair. "You give them money, you assume you're going to win, not knowing that you're giving all this money and you're not gonna win anything," she said.

14 of New Jersey's 79 instant games from this edition of Crossword, to Sapphire blues, have given away their top tier prizes.

In Delaware and Pennsylvania, when big prizes are exhausted, they stop selling the game.

The New Jersey Lottery declined an on camera interview. It did issue a statement indicating it urges players to visit the lottery's website for prize information.

The statement said, "we make this information prominent and refresh it regularly, so players can make their choices based upon the most complete and current game information available." Most people Action News spoke to told us they were not aware of the web.
