SEPTA bus hits pedestrian

DARBY BOROUGH, Pa. - July 2, 2008 It happened around 8:00 p.m. at 9th and Main Streets in Darby Borough.

SEPTA officials say the pedestrian was hit by a route 113 bus.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

SEPTA spokesperson Jim Maloney says the man had just finished a conversation on his cell phone and was standing on the sidewalk, out of the path of the bus, when someone called his name resulting in the man turning into the path of the bus.

An alleged eyewitness has a different account; he said the man was walking with his back turned to the bus and was on his cell phone when the bus struck him.
