Phila. girl gets shot in foot

TIOGA-NICETOWN - July 4, 2008

A teenage girl in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia thought she heard firecrackers early Friday morning.

The sounds turned out to be gunfire. And when the shooting ended she discovered that she had a bullet wound in her foot.

The 17-year-old had just walked out of a take-out restaurant on the 3700 block of North Carlisle Street at about 1 A.M., when she heard what she thought were 4th of July firecrackers.

Police say the shooting broke out during a nearby drug deal.

It wasn't until the teen had walked for a little while down the street that she realized she had been shot. Her aunt drove her to Temple University Hospital where she is in stable condition.

Police have not said if she was the intended target, or if she was hit by a stray bullet.
