Party on the Parkway

CENTER CITY - July 4, 2008 The Party on the Parkway is the place to be on America's birthday.

Southwest Airlines parade was not scheduled to start until the evening, but as always people arrived hours before to ensure a good spot and to get settled for hours of celebrating.

"The people are friendly. There's a lot of good food, there's a lot of camaraderie. It's a great feeling," Georgina Jordan of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania said.

There is a lot of work that goes into creating this event; hours of parade practice and days of stage set up for this year's performer, Emmy award winner John Legend as well as all the food preparations.

While the forecast might be iffy, people have come prepared and say they're more than willing to put up with a little rain.

The mayor's office said they'll keep an eye on the weather, as everyone's safety comes first.
