Celebrating the 4th on the Parkway

PHILADELPHIA - July 4, 2008 John Legend certainly has that sound and energy legends are made of.

Friday night, the five-time Grammy winner played for some very excited and very loyal fans who sat in hours of rain to hear his sweet sound.

Legend had soul and so did Philly's own Russell Tompkins Jr. and the New Stylistics who warmed up the stage with their razor sharp harmonies.

Before the performers took the stage the Southwest Airlines Parade took over the parkway. People from around the area and around the world lined the streets.

This year's fireworks show was set to the theme melting pot and featured music from around the world.

"It's symbolic of the Fourth of July; it's like ice cream and cake on a birthday, you can't really have one without the other," said one happy member of the crowd.
