Pope names new bishop for Wilmington

ROME (AP) - July 7, 2008

The diocese says Pope Benedict XVI has selected 64-year-old Auxiliary Bishop Francis Malooly of the Archdiocese of Baltimore to succeed Wilmington Bishop Michael Saltarelli.

Saltarelli has served as the leader of the Catholic Church in Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore since 1996. When he turned 75, in accordance with canon law, Saltarelli offered his resignation to the Pope.

Malooly, a Maryland native, will be introduced at a press conference Monday morning.
