Amusement riders get stuck upside-down

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) - July 7, 2008

The ride has been closed since it malfunctioned about 9:25 p.m. Saturday causing the riders to be stuck about 10 feet off the ground about five feet from the ride's platform station.

Spokeswoman Mary Lou Rosemeyer says the ride should reopen later Monday.

The ride features a bed of 40 seats suspended between two pendulum-like arms. The arms rotate and lift the seating area up to 40 feet high, while the seat rotate as rider spin forward or backward 360 degrees. Riders are held in place by over-the-shoulder harnesses.

Rosemeyer says nobody was seriously hurt though one rider complained of neck and back pain.
