Wolves and Sixers Deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves have acquired swingman Rodney Carney, center Calvin Booth, a protected first-round draft pick and cash from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a conditional second-round pick. The Timberwolves used a 2.8 million-dollar trade exemption gained from a deal last December with Miami to make the finances match up.

Booth has one year left on his contract and it is unlikely he will stay in Minnesota. Carney has one year left plus a team option for 2009-10.

Today is the first day teams are allowed to sign free agents. The 76ers have called a news conference for later today at which time they're expected to announce they've inked veteran power forward Elton Brand.
