Army medic didn't miss this birth

FORT LEWIS, Wash. (AP) - July 10, 2008

But he was right there for the birth of his third.

In fact, Sergeant Boyd helped deliver the baby in his truck while on leave from duty in Iraq.

Boyd was taking his wife to a military hospital at Fort Lewis, near Tacoma, Washington.

But they didn't make it.

At the main gate, Boyd's wife Benicia told him the baby wasn't going to wait.

While Boyd's medical experience involves battlefield injuries, he says he's had a little training on childbirth.

But he never expected to use it for his own baby.

They've named him Isaiah.

Boyd is set to return to Iraq later this month.

His combat tour is scheduled to end in December.
