Canine fashion show benefits animal shelter

NEW YORK (AP) - July 15, 2008

A canine fashion show designed to raise money for an animal shelter is being held Tuesday night in New York. Organizers say the Paws for Style event was created in 1999.

Co-host Wendy Diamond is Animal Fair magazine's editorial director and a judge on the CBS television show "Greatest American Dog." She says she doesn't promote dogs dressed up and toted around as accessories but she does occasionally dress dogs for charity.

Celebrities and their canine companions will strut down the catwalk wearing matching outfits to be auctioned on eBay. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of New York.

Celebrities expected to attend include MTV's "The Hills" star Lauren Conrad, "Hairspray" actress Nikki Blonsky and VH1 host Alison Becker.
