Allentown man shot to death during home invasion

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - July 15, 2008 Police say he may have been shot during a struggle with one of the intruders.

Neighbors along West Pine Street describe Walterick as a wonderful family man and a selfless neighbor.

He and his wife LeAnna had a weekday ritual.

He would wake up at 3AM, getting ready for his job as a garbage collector and LeAnna would get up too and have coffee with him before he left.

Tuesday morning though, investigators say it was right around that time when a knock came at the side entrance door.

Two masked men carrying guns reportedly stormed into the house demanding money.

Walterick's wife says when her husband went after one of the attackers' guns, a round was fired and the bullet hit Walterick in the face.

Paramedics arrived a short time later, but he died at the scene.

Walterick's co-workers at Raritan Valley Disposal say he'll be missed as a friend and as a colleague.
