She wrote a mystery novel that became a killer's motivation. She fell in love with a man who has the soul of her deceased love. She ran away with a baby that was not legally hers and pointed a gun to one of her city's most beloved figures. She also, at times, is known to sing a few bars.
This is the character of Marcie Walsh McBain on ABC Daytime's soap opera One Life to Live. Though, the actress who plays Marcie says she can relate to her character, there is one striking similarity between character Marcie and portrayer Kathy Brier - they both like to belt out a few bars from time to time.
Come August 16 at the Canal Room on West Broadway in New York City, Kathy along with her fellow daytime stars will open the first show of the country-wide Divas of Daytime TV tour. Kathy, joined by One Life To Live's Kassie DePaiva and All My Children's Bobbie Eakes, will be singing their renditions of well-known, contemporary hits from big name groups and singers such as Madonna, Guns N' Roses, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, and more, as well as sing original numbers from the stars' own albums.
Creator Marvin Segel of the DeSimone Group in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, may not be an on-camera soap opera star like Kathy, but he is well aware of the magnitude of soap fandom, which is why he knew this event would be of great interest in many people.
However, even he could not believe the phone calls he received once the date was set.
"We have gotten phone calls as far away as Germany and London; they're flying over just for this day to watch the show," Marvin said.
According to Divas of Daytime TV creator, soap fans are only overshadowed in number by NASCAR fans, but Kathy is quick to point out that the passion of soap fans is unbeatable. She knows that at the Canal Room her fans' passion will be able to illuminate throughout the event.
"The fans are going to be really excited about the show. What's great about this venue is it's very intimate and the fans will really get to feel like we are giving them a concert in their own living room…they're going to be able to talk with us and interact with us and I know a lot of our fans really like to do that," Kathy said.
The production team behind this event is a local company from the DeSimone Group, including the aforementioned Marvin Segel, along with his fellow producer Mark Stevens. The DeSimone Group, headed by Mike DeSimone, is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
