14-year-old girl's body found in quarry
SICKLERVILLE, N.J. - July 18, 2008 Friends say Haja and two of her sisters decided to go swimming late Friday in the lake, one of two in the neighborhood, despite being admonished by their aunt not to.
Neighbor Nick DeSabatino ran to the scene after he heard the girl sisters screaming.
"They were on the phone crying saying 'we were only in the shallow end, she started to swim out more and she got sucked out," DeSabatino said.
The call came in to fire officials around 6:40 p.m.
A small army of police and fire rescue crews converged on the scene by boat, jet skis, and even a state police helicopter to serach for the girl.
The quarry, known as Cobblestone, is located in close proximity to the James Lilley elementary school on 1275 Williamstown Road in Sicklerville, Camden County.
Fire crews used boats and boogie boards to search the shallow lake.
The body was found around 9:40 p.m.
Haja was to be a 9th grader in Timber Creek High School.
