Corzine starts tour of Israel
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - July 20, 2008 He was met at the airport in Tel Aviv by Ambassador Asaf
Sharviv. Corzine asked him about the Israeli economy and national
mood as the tour got underway.
Over the next few days, he is to check out the nation's
stem-cell research and alternative energy operations.
His trip comes a few days before Barack Obama arrives there.
Corzine's visit is seen as a chance to promote Obama as a friend of
Israel before the Democratic presidential candidate's arrival
there.
Corzine's first two attempts to visit Israel were called off.
First, he had to stay in New Jersey because of a legislative spat
over property tax reform. Later, he could not go after he was
nearly killed in a car crash.
