Police say there were at least 6 vehicles involved, including a tractor-trailer.
The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway 1 mile north of the Churchman's Road Exit.
Medics treated several people, and even took a dog from the scene of the accident. No details have been released about the injuries.
Motorists are still being advised to seek alternate routes, because the traffic backup stretched for miles.
