A porcupine's predicament

How do you help a stranded porcupine?

Very carefully, and with a long-handled shovel.

One of the prickly critters couldn't get over a concrete barrier on the side of I-90 in Spokane, Washington, after wandering from the median across the eastbound traffic lanes.

The State Patrol received a number of calls from people concerned about the porcupine's predicament.

Trooper Mark Baker wasn't sure how to help the creature.

But he says a state transportation worker came to the rescue with a long-handled shovel and gave the porcupine a little boost over the wall.
