PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - July 25, 2008
The merged company faced legal challenges to using the TD
Commerce Bank name. The company was prevented from using that name
on signs and marketing material in some counties in Massachusetts
because of a trademark infringement lawsuit by Worcester-based
Commerce Bank & Trust.
Bharat Masrani, president and chief executive officer, says the
company didn't want to spend valuable time and resources on a legal
challenge.
He says the company will still draw in Commerce Bank roots with
its name and slogan, "TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank."
