AOL conducted a nationwide survey and found that Philadelphia ranks #13 among the cities most addicted to using e-mail.
- 50% of Philly email users have checked email from the bathroom
- 50% have checked email while driving
- 13% have checked email from religious services.
- 26% of people from Philadelphia check email as soon as they wake up
- 38% even check their email in the middle of the night
- 50% of mobile email users in Philadelphia keep their BlackBerry or iPhone on their nightstand to keep from missing an email in the middle of the night.
- 30% of email users in Philly have declared "email bankruptcy," deleting all of their email messages to start fresh, or are seriously considering doing so.
- 21% have checked e-mail while on a date
- 38% have checked e-mail at happy hour
- 13% have checked e-mail from church
Also, according to the survey, almost one in five even look for vacation spots with email access.
The survey lists the top 10 cities most addicted to e-mail as:
- New York
- Houston
- Chicago
- Detroit
- San Francisco
- Sacramento
- Orlando
- Minneapolis-St. Paul
- Denver
- Phoenix
