76ers sign Lou Williams to 5 year deal

PHILADELPHIA - July 31, 2008 Terms of the deal have not been revealed.

Williams was being wooed by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but will now remain as a key part of the 76ers future.

The 21 year old Williams was the 45th pick in the 2005 NBA draft, taken right out of tiny Gwinnett High School in Snelville, Georgia.

He gained the favor of head coach Maurice Cheeks, and played increasing minutes as the 2007-2008 season wore on.

The 6'2" Williams averaged just over 11 points per game, in 23 minutes of action.

Today's signing leaves the 76ers with one deal still undone, that being a new contract for Andre Iguodala.

He, too, is a restricted free agent and can shop himself to other teams. The 76ers, however, have the right to match any offer.
